A big thank you to our wonderful parents who came along to help!
Last week we were lucky enough to have Science Alive come to school to teach us about space. On Thursday we had a Space Odyssey workshop. We learnt about the Moon, the order of the planets, the Milky Way and how Earth and the Moon orbit the sun. On Friday we went in the Space Dome. We went into a big black tent that had the Solar System projected on to it. Kelsey told us all about the different stars and the shapes they make. We got to look at some of the planets up really close. We are now experts on space! A big thank you to our wonderful parents who came along to help!

This week we have been on a secret mission creating our Space Live movie. We are loving learning about space and had so much fun making this video to share with you all. Perhaps we have some future news reporters in Room 13!!! This term our topic is space. We have been looking at the solar system, the different planets and how they orbit the sun. We have been loving watching the cool YouTube clips Miss Ward has found. We are going to learn about a part of space each week starting with the sun. In writing we have been learning to take out the unnecessary 'ands' in our stories. We wrote our own silly sentences on whiteboards with lots of 'ands' in them and read them to the class. We then reread them in our groups and took out the 'ands' we didn't need and replaced them with a full stop and a capital letter. The next day we practiced this in our own stories about Muddy Paws. Miss Ward was really impressed with our wonderful stories and the way went back and reread what we had written. We will continue to work on this next week.
What a fantastic day we had at the cross country today! I was so proud of everyone for trying their very best and not giving up. Yesterday we went with Room 15 and half of Room 4 to Clip 'n' Climb. First we went on the climbing walls. Our instructor Phil showed us how to clip on to the cords and then how to safely come down. Then we had time to try all of the different climbing walls. We LOVED this!! I was so impressed with how high some of the students got! We have some climbing stars in Room 13! After a quick break we went to Adventure Based Learning. We played lots of fun games that helped us practice our teamwork. Our favourite was trying to get the hula hoop right around the circle without letting go of each others hands. This was tricky but we got better when we helped each other out. We had a fantastic day out! Amie taught us the saying 'Speed to your needs and wait for your wants'. From this we learnt that it is important to save our money for the things we really need. Needs are the things we can't do without like water, food, clothes and shoes and wants are things that we like but don't always need such as new toys. We had so much fun with Amie pretending to be money superheroes and even got our own ASB wristband to keep. What a BIG week we had at Aquagym! The children were all eager to learn and made fantastic progress over the week. I was really impressed with the way the children gave everything a go and tried their very best. Thank you Rachael (Johnny's Mum) for the amazing photos! |
